Culture and Wellness

Resident wellness isn’t an afterthought here. It’s built into the structure of our program. Our Wellness & Community Committee is led by residents themselves, with two representatives from each class serving throughout all four years of residency. The committee’s mission is to support residents’ wellbeing both individually and as a community, and to strengthen connections within and across classes.

Each year, committee members lead their class in a “community vision” discussion to set shared goals, then follow up to help make them happen. The committee also manages an annual wellness budget, funding class and residency-wide activities that bring people together, with a special focus on welcoming and building community among incoming residents. When a resident experiences a major life event, the committee helps organize support from their peers.

From quarterly meetings to the annual retreat, the committee ensures that community and wellness remain a living, resident-driven priority throughout your training.

2025 Annual Resident Retreat

Each year, our residents come together for the annual retreat—a unique opportunity for all classes to bond in a relaxed, fun environment. This year’s retreat took place at the beautiful Pack Forest in Eatonville, where residents played musical chairs, participated in cross-year team building, and competed to find the most tiny rubber ducks, all while enjoying the scenic forest setting. The retreat fosters camaraderie and connection, making it a highlight of the residency experience!

2025 Chief Resident Retreat

At this year’s Chief Resident Retreat, we celebrated leadership transitions with a friendly cook-off between our outgoing and incoming chiefs and Associate Program Directors. It was a great opportunity to build camaraderie while stirring up a little friendly competition—complete with delicious results! The retreat offered space to reflect, connect, and welcome our new leadership team in true collaborative spirit.
